Sauna in Stockholm with lake bathing and fitness centre

The picture is from the new pond. Below you can read more about how it came to be and why.

(2023-05-25)

Change, exercise and shower during the day all summer for 60 SEK - no pre-booking required.

The reception and gym are open from 9 am every day from 25 June to 13 August.

Between 9am and 4pm on weekdays and between 9am and 3pm on weekends, you are welcome to change and exercise, such as going to the gym or running, and then take a shower.

Admission for only changing rooms/gym/shower is paid directly at the reception, pre-booking is not needed (and is not possible). Price 60 SEK.

After 16:00 on weekdays and after 15:00 on weekends, you book your sauna visit online. The sauna is hot from 5pm on weekdays and 4pm on weekends, but we let you in earlier so that you have plenty of time to exercise first.

The sauna runs every evening throughout the summer - book as usual here on the website.

From Sunday 25 June to Sunday 13 August, the sauna is open only in the evening, between 17 and 21 on weekdays and between 16 and 20 on weekends.

You can arrive up to an hour earlier if you book an appointment from 17:00 on weekdays and 16:00 on weekends.

Book your visit online on this page.

Keep calm and respect the fact that your sauna guest has come for a quiet moment

The sauna here at Hellasgården in Nacka, Stockholm, is a place for recovery and recreation. Please respect that many of our guests come for these very reasons.

Sauna with colleagues? Take a look at our suggestions for different conference packages!

We expect you as a guest to be considerate of other guests in order to achieve an optimal environment with minimum strain on the facility and maximum consideration for other guests.

Pre-book your visit online (no drop-in visits)

The following information is valid from 14 August:

If you arrive at the resort without a reservation, the staff will ask you to make a reservation on the spot using your mobile phone.

The reason for this is that we need to be able to control how many guests we have in the facility and we want to eliminate the risk of you as a guest coming here without a place for you - it happens several times a week that the facility is fully booked and or reserved.

Except for 9-14 on weekdays, when we also accept drop-in guests. However, we recommend everyone to book online even during weekdays, to ensure a place. This is especially true during high season.

How to reschedule your appointment

Your entrance ticket can be rebooked for another day (only online and at least 6 hours before your scheduled arrival) if you have chosen a rebooking guarantee when booking, a rebooking guarantee costs 20 SEK.

Here's how to reschedule:

Click on Change (the text in blue to be visible) in the receipt you received from us by email when you made the booking.

If it's been a while since you booked, search for "Hellasgården" in your email, and you'll find the confirmation.

Then choose a new time for your visit.

However, your admission ticket cannot be cancelled.

If you book when there are less than two hours left until closing...

We usually close at 9pm on weekdays. If you book a visit that starts later than 19:00, you must still be out of the facility when we close, so your visit will be less than two hours.

Respect the calm on Thursdays!

We have different themes and activities, such as Aufguss on Wednesday evenings and quiet evenings on Thursday evenings. Some guests come to us on Thursdays just to have a moment of peace, quiet and silence. Please respect this. If you want to spend time with your friends, we would like you to book another time.

NOTE! Quiet Thursdays are cancelled until October when autumn darkness falls.

Together we keep it clean and tidy

You as a guest and we as operators also have a shared responsibility to ensure that the facility is clean and tidy - we have recycling bins for plastic, paper, pet and other items in the changing rooms - and that unnecessary congestion is avoided.

Forgotten things

Stored items are kept outside for two weeks. Staff cannot go through all forgotten possessions, so if you have forgotten something, you are asked to look for it yourself. You do not need to call/email us beforehand.

This is how the visit works:

You check in at the reception. After that you go to the changing room where you take off your shoes at the entrance and put them in your locker. You can rent towels, bathrobe and padlock at the reception.
You take a shower and go into the sauna. You sit on a towel.
Wear a towel around your body or swimwear when you go to the lake. There are other guests in the area, such as schools. Wash up!
Rinse off your feet after a shower before going back into the sauna. Wear slippers when you go down to the lake.
You can, if your sauna stove agrees, pour a small amount of water on the heater. This changes the heat and humidity in the sauna. The water evaporates, rises and spreads in the sauna.
Respect the tranquillity of the sauna and the fact that many people come to the sauna to recover and enjoy a moment of peace and relaxation. The sauna is a place where every individual should be at peace 🙏.
Tip - remember to drink plenty of water!

Rules - the following apply to ensure that everyone enjoys the sauna and other facilities:

You are not allowed to wear swimwear or other clothing inside the sauna IF YOU HAVE BATHED WITH THOSE CLOTHES IN THE SEA. The reason is hygienic - algae from the lake contaminates the sauna and the lichen. IT IS OK TO WEAR CLEAN BATHING CLOTHES IN THE BATHROOM if you want to cover up - for example for cultural and/or religious reasons.
Alcohol, sauna drinks, food, sweets, fruit, newspapers, etc. are not allowed inside the sauna. Alcohol consumption is also not permitted elsewhere in the facility.
Glass bottles may not be brought into the premises. If a glass falls to the floor and breaks, it is very difficult to remove all the glass splinters.
It is not allowed to pour large amounts of water on the aggregates. This will only have an undesirable effect, i.e. a colder sauna, increase energy consumption and wear out the heater. However, if your neighbours in the sauna agree, you can splash a moderate amount of water on the heater.
It is not allowed to organize peeling, hair dyeing, etc. on the premises. Aromatherapy is only permitted during the times set aside for this purpose.
It is not allowed to be naked on the patio and the dock. When leaving the changing rooms, on the terrace or on the jetty on your way to or from your swim in the lake, you must wear a bathing suit or cover yourself in some other way, for example with a towel.
You are most welcome to experience the amazing and unique Hellasgården 🤗🐳🤩!

Cool off in Källtorpssjön

As a sauna guest, you can cool off in Källtorpssjön via our bathing jetty. Our guests swim here all year round!

After a swim in the lake, it is popular to relax on our terrace, located overlooking the lake and directly adjacent to the sauna building.

OBS! Rinse with a towel all around your body on the terrace, on the way to and from the dock.

The walkway to and from the bathing platform is a vulnerable environment. We advise you to stay there in the company of another bather. The jetty can be slippery and there is a risk of severe hypothermia when swimming.

All swimming is at your own risk.

Diving prohibited!

Aufguss - aroma sauna on Wednesday evenings (summer break only in July)

On Wednesdays from 18.00-21.00 we have an aroma sauna with "aufguss", under the guidance of our knowledgeable and inspiring "saunameisters".

After the summer, we may return to twice-weekly infusions, as we did before the pandemic.

Entrance fee these evenings is 170 SEK, and your stay is limited to 1.5 hours.

You book in the same way as a normal sauna visit - choose the product Aufguss (ladies) or Aufguss (men).

Aufguss comes from German sauna traditions and can be translated as "pouring on".

In an aroma sauna, the sauna master pours water with fragrant essential oils over the hot stones of the sauna heater, creating wonderful air currents that are enhanced by the sauna master waving/swishing a towel.

A session lasts 5-8 minutes and takes place on a rolling basis during the evening. So you can't expect to be at every sitting, but guests take turns to bathe/shower/rest.

The Aufgussmeister decides how many people can fit in the sauna at the same time and when the sessions take place.

To allow guests to relax and enjoy the scents and warm breezes, the seating is done in silence.

The last session of the evening is around 20:15, so that everyone can finish in peace and be out of the facility by 21:00.

Of our five sauna attendants, only one is a woman. In order to complete the sessions during the ladies' Aufguss, she may need the help of one of our male Aufguss. If this happens, all female guests will be informed.

If you absolutely cannot imagine a man holding an Aufguss during your visit with us, please feel free to write to us via info@hellasgarden.se, we make sure not to use one of our male sauna attendants on this particular evening.

Saunameisters: Tomas, Lars, Tauno, Olav and Nicole.

Common question: why don't we have mixed infusion nights?

We, the operators of the sauna, have suspended all mixed activities. The main reason is that there is still a spread of infection, and both departments are now the same size. If ladies are allowed into the men's side, unnecessary crowding could occur there.

If/when we return to offering mixed saunas at certain times, we will clearly communicate when, where and how this is done, as there are guests who for various reasons do not want to be part of the mixed activity.

Panoramic view of the new steam room built at an angle.

This is how it happened when the pond was rebuilt...

Before the facility was rebuilt starting in summer 2020, the capacity on the women's side was significantly smaller than the men's side. Both changing rooms and saunas were smaller.

When the pandemic paralysed parts of the business, the owner, Hellas Alliance Association (a collection of Hellas clubs, read more here) in close consultation with us, the operators of the facility, to carry out the necessary renovations - and a desired redesign of the women's side.

By changing the layout, on a proposal from architect Petter Lindblad of Partum, space was created for more changing lockers and showers - as well as a larger sauna.

The sauna was built at an angle and involved experts in sauna and ventilation. The test runs we did before opening the facility showed that the air circulates as planned and that the heat spreads in a desirable way in the space.

The heater used is a Harvia brand, which is the most common heater used in public saunas in Finland.

Most of the work has been carried out by craftsmen at Söderorts Bygg. We who run the business have enjoyed working with Söderorts Bygg.

During the pandemic, we also moved to online bookings. We can now track booking statistics and see that Hellasgården is used as much, or more, by women than by men. The renovation, which came in over the owner's budget, has thus proved to be well justified and timely.

Here you can see the new reception area.

From idea to reality - the new reception and activity centre

The new reception and activity centre will serve as a hub for all activities at Hellasgården.

For those of us who run and work at Hellasgården, this is a big step - now we separate the café operations, which will continue to be run in the Sjöcaféet, and the management of all activities - everything from sauna visits and football golf to overnight guests and conference guests.

Hopefully, this will enable us to offer even better service to you as a guest.

Unlike the other parts of the sauna building, the design and furnishings for the reception area have been carried out and largely financed by us, the operators.

The new reception is designed by  Ekotekten and the interior has been manufactured and finished by Golden Interior. A combo that we have greatly appreciated having the chance to work with.

What to do if you can't pay online

Some guests may have difficulty paying online. If this happens to you, please send an email immediately to info@hellasgarden.se.

In your email, you can write the time you want to book and we want you to specify:

What type of card you are using, if you are booking via mobile then it is of interest to know what type of mobile phone, and if you are booking via computer you will want to know what browser you are using.

Mixed sauna on Mondays and Wednesdays

On Mondays and Wednesdays, women are allowed to visit the men's sauna. You book your visit as usual - ladies book a place on the ladies' side and gentlemen book a place on the men's side.

Culture-safe mixed sauna

A clarification: our mixed sauna facilities are safe for women with a cultural and/or religious affiliation that makes it unthinkable to be in the same sauna as people of the opposite sex. The ladies have their own sauna to which no men have access, as does the terrace outside the sauna, where the men's section is separated from the ladies' by a plank.

Quiet evening on Thursdays - respect the peace and quiet

On Thursday evenings from 4pm, we dim the lights in the changing rooms and set up heaters and lanterns in the changing rooms and sometimes in the sauna.

Some guests come to us on Thursdays just for peace and quiet and a moment of silence. Please respect this!

We would prefer, in all goodwill, that young children stay at home this evening, as they risk detracting from the experience of peace and spiritual restoration for other guests.

The same applies if you visit the sauna to hang out with your friends. We suggest that you book a time other than Thursday evenings.
